Abstract
Team-based learning is a type of flipped classroom, where homework is replaced with reading assignments and lectures are replaced with team problem solving. Mastery grading (also called outcomes-based assessment) replaces high-stakes exams with more frequent low-stakes assessments. Problems on these assessments are graded credit/no credit, and students earn points based on the number of skills for which they eventually earn credit. In this seminar, I’ll say more about these pedagogical techniques and explain how I used them in my MA 305 course last spring.
